CALGARY, AB, Sept. 1 - Summit Nanotech (“Summit”), a leader in sustainable lithium extraction technology, announced today the appointment of Dr. Cristóbal De La Maza as Senior Vice President of ESG & Sustainability. The addition bolsters the DLE company’s leadership roster in LATAM as Summit enters new joint venture opportunities and expands its community presence in Chile.

De La Maza has served in extensive government roles in Chile, such as the Superintendent of the Environment, the Director of Environment and Climate Change Division for the Ministry of Energy, and the Director of the Division of Information and Environmental Economics. During his tenure in government, he led Chile’s carbon neutrality by 2050 program, national green growth strategies, and drafted climate legislation on topics including green taxation, carbon markets, extended producer responsibility and ecolabeling.

“Cristóbal’s expertise in creating environmental policies and understanding the community impact of technology and innovation makes him an ideal addition as we accelerate our commercialization in Chile and Argentina,” said Gautam Parimoo, Chief Operating Officer at Summit Nanotech.  

Sustainable lithium extraction is the center of conversation surrounding responsible mining as countries navigate the relationship between environment, communities, and operators who look to fill the lithium supply chain.
